
And it’s the same thing for these characters except exaggerated. You work your entire adolescence to either get a job or go to college and once you’re there it’s like, now what? That feels like a fundamentally adult question.

I think that’s something we all experience. Chosen Ones is about navigating the world as an adult, about having achieved the thing that you’ve been working towards. But thematically, YA stories are about coming of age and adult stories are not. I’m always trying to write the best story I can with the most complex characters I can.

My approach to the book creatively was the same.
